In one point you win, obviously the speaker panels were not really infinite indeed.http://www.thomas-schick.com/Siemens.htmBut when the frequency where the dipole acoustic short circuit "kicks in" is clearly below the Fs of the dr...

Thanks, Wojtekm it sounds like interesting experience. I would mention that you use K-horns and with them the loading would be much more capriccios then it would it be with stand-alone infinite-baffle bass section. Did you seal the space between the ...

These speakers were not open baffle. I would agree with Mani's description of their sound, except for the 'edge' bit. That depended on where you were sitting/standing....

I had a look at the pic of your speaker just now - may I ask about the reasoning that went in to choosing a diffraction type horn? Also, your midrange looks like an open baffle type. What kind of back wave/diffraction management do you use? Kris...

Unicon,
If I understand you correctly then you proposed that tightening to loosening screws that attach drivers to baffle made a lot of difference in your case.
I never come across to it. Tightening to loosening of screws would affect the ...

An old carpenter once advised young me that a good carpenter is able to integrate his mistakes.Note that your photo popped up after I first responded, rendering that stuff non-sequiter, so this and the following are an edit in response to the photo:W...

If to make i" thick baffles while still retaining the sculpted front edges, the cases would (basically) have six vertical sides, inside and out. Of course, the size and the shape of the baffle(s) also affect the sound. Is this something you've taken ...

Before experimenting with the Hi power Electrostatic module, I used 416's in my large corner horn. They sounded extraordinary (ran with inf baffle to basementand made me realize how much Altec/JBL enclosures suck with their poor deep bassperformance...

There seems to be a lack of useful feedback on the actual sound quality of these oddball, relatively rare TAD mids. So I think it would be helpful to share some basic observations I gather after listening to them for a couple of days. I install these...

My comments are rather discouraging arn't they! Not my intention but hopefully helpful in the long run. Regarding time alignment i just wanted to raise the point i think it might be more relevant than initially anticipated by someone considering buil...

But efficient (in terms of space usage) and radical.put woofers in the sides of flare of your attic horns, sort of like Danley Synergy horn, not near the throat but towards the mouth area, using the attic as the infinite baffle. But will the pressuriz...

Romy,If you havent already, why not explore the Infinite baffle concept? Or a long terminated back chamber for that matter.Current drive should also be very good on the lower registers.Rgds, Collin...

I believe that the Arum Cantus is typical of most ribbons in mirroring one of the principal failings of MC cartridges, a rising top end (over 20k), although I have not actually heard this - at all - with my own small Arum Cantus, and I just go n...

Well, a lot of horns are put into box enclosures of course. This is really a complicated subject. The baffle must be dealt with in a manner similarly for all loudspeakers so designed of course. More interestingly is the potential fo...
Sand damping it beautiful, it is well-recognized, but you do pay cost for it, in your case the cost is space.
I know that Romy… but without the massive amounts of sand, there are always some vibrations felt when I t...

Actually it is very possible that it might be so. I made some rudimental measurements and concluded that RAAL tweeter and JBL midrange mounted in the same baffle has non-perfect time aliment. So, I will need to use gaskets under the drivers to time-a...
Oleg has a lot of bad press in Germany for unkept promises and defaulting on delivery of product. Just keep an open mind next to the open ear. The best product only serves a purpose if it a) arrives and b) performs.I really like t...

Romy:Thank you for your response. You are correct that the vision is not completely developed for this 4 way. A bit more info is needed. I've had some experience with JBL woofers, but am relying heavily on the results achieved...
I use regular Lowther DX4 (ENABLED) . I don't think the 250-400 is stellar and I'm still waiting for the extension to try small throat for lower midrange (2,75") (B&C 8P21E driver) for 200-1000Hz .
Look...

How about this idea: to have sort of infinite baffle in PP configuration but to distribute it to the middle of the room as it depicted below?...
Your Typical Acoustical Suspension-type Loudspeaker enclosure witch has less then 90 db at 1 watt does not belong with a horn system that starts at 110db at 1 watt, even when you ad more then 1 driver, it is still way to far...

I researched infinite baffle[s] and was going to do an install at our previous home. We moved just before starting the project. There is very good info on the net. If you want, I can do a deep paper-work search to see if I can locate the info. on ...

Here is pretty much the idea that I had – a very tall line array with min footprint and with more of less corrected timing error by angling the front baffle. At the picture below the curvature of positioning of Macondo channels is not depicted (for s...

I completely agree that in a home setting, even if you love "Drum & Bass" and Hip-Hop, you will never ever use anywhere near 2" of cone excursion.

Chirag, First off all you have to define what do you want from them. If at this moment you’re looking for something within $700 then very next year, when you finish you medical school you will be searching in very different price range… :-) Now a lit...

I think you’re onto something in it. Those Lowthers in fact might be not unfavorable candidates to use with horns at all. An open baffle at 150Hz? Perhaps, although I do not feel that Lowther can handle that exertion with a necessary integrity,...

Well, this for the tip of multi-layering the vertical panel. I like it a lot. I will allow keeping the mild panel thinner and more “airy” visually. The total high of the thing will be not 8’ for rather somewhere slightly above 6’. Also, I review the ...

The Western Electric L-9 in Munich was/is an infinite baffle design. The 754B woofers are in a sealed enclosure with a front horn. There is no possibility of cancellation between front wave and back wave of speaker, so I wouldn't call it an "open baf...

Unicon, the RESONANCE that you deal while you tightening to loosening screws does not deals with TIME . Perhaps it is the semantics that you feel comfortable but still I would live mass resonance to mass domain and would not confuse it.
The e...

So, you are thinking about 3-way installation with GOTO bass, Lowther mid range and some ribbon atop? It is certainly no one knows how I might end up: try it, post the pictures and let know us how it went.
I can see a few points where you might need...
