The $3.6K per pair, if they are good divers - the 2440 level, is a tolerable price for custom-made drivers. I presume that he does not include and PS into the price. My major question would not be about the drivers – the filed-coils are very simple d...

I do not know what is meant by “close bottom” or “open bottomless”-- please expound?I do not know of importance of enemys death to this topic. There is a long thread in the subwoofer section of "devil audio" about tapped horns. John mentioned gettin...

Stefano, I do not exactly follow what you tried to say but it is OK. We do need to understand that we do when we are talking about Goto or any other driver manufactures. It is absolutely not know what the hell sound comes in your drivers. I hardly be...

compression drivers are the way to go as far as i am concerned but obviously performance depends on the horn lens.
my beef with ET-703 is that i don't understand its horn or whatever it is. if not an explana...
Still, I do miss the dynamic lower MF of the 15" woofer...
Well, this is it. I really do not know what it is and I (and you) call it “dynamics” but it might be something else that juts appears like dynamics… I did not pl...

I am currently planning high-WAF speakers for my sister which have to stand in the corners on the floor. Asking for small corner horns I was told the EV Baronet could be a solution. Simulating it with roughly estimated dimensions I found that the FR ...
The best sound at the Show (to my ears, again) was in Hiraga/Melody room.
Hello Vuki!To my ears this speaker has a very smooth-sounding compression driver that hasn´t deserved being combined with a 15" cone ...

The target range is 40Hz to 400Hz. One JBL 2206H 12" drive (an alternative configuration is with two [2] 2206H drivers). Exponential. Interesting that you mention a J horn, and that the same could be achieved by two horns (as oppose...

is the compression driver problem not solved by using multiple drivers all feeding into the same, relatively large throat, eg four 2.5 inch drivers into a 5 inch throat? The idea is that sensitivity to reactance will be much less at lower excursions,...

Robin, of course I meant to say above that the Heils are equivocal when pressed, and no reason for me to think a compression chamber mosh with another driver would improve this quality; but I am just guessing. It would certainly be interesting i...

I take it back, 100Hz is pushing it regarding horns and compression drivers I know of. I can't imagine a compression driver reaching the midbass muscle of the Fane S 8M. And I don't see why one should try, when the Fane reaches 120Hz so effortlessly....

I pulled a mono set of these exact looking horns out of a movie theater they were installed in 1946 :)the system consisted of 2 of these bass cabs and one gigantic dual compression driver horn on top for the entire theaterI am no horn guy and looking...

Herman,Im sure you are right about what you are saying and it makes perfect sense. In the Valencia though, the 416 was crossed over at 800Hz to an even smaller(1") compression driver and to me it sounded really good. The reason I chose a 15" in the f...
It is was not bad sound but the sound that clearly indicated that something is very wrong: supper compressed, complete absent of LF, huge HF extension. The whole horn sounds like a bad MD driver.
Open the back panels...

Hi Romy. Interesting point as i had similar perception along my recent I ran an 8inch driver with fronthorn. Then just got my hands on a pair of RFT L-3701 (or 3702). http://tempuri.org/tempuri.htmlA fabulous driver with exactly those parameters. T...

I am quite fascinated with the result that I might get from MiniME and at the same time I am defensive with the direction it takes. Anyhow, here is how it stands…
The decision to go for MF driver was I think right one. Even the 70-20RX tweeter has s...

One of the main advantages of Macondo configuration was the fact of multi amplification. As with any other systems which have a dedicated amplifier of the same type to each individual driver Macondo can run over dynamic range with amazing ease th...

We understand that Charlus’ selection of drivers are not a selection yet but some kind of very preliminary idea of the drivers that he feels like he like. I said “he feels like he like” not accidently. I do not think Charlus, or anybody else in h...

Last time we wrote you thought I should focus less on tweeters and more on midbass.I am not done yet, but I have found a very nice midbass solution. Somewhat unorthodox, maybe.I have come to love police sirens! Without having A/B compared it to a pai...

"Sadurni Acoustics' Staccato 4-way hornspeaker exploits MDF horns with up to 3" wall thickness. The 92cm lower midrange horn which loads a cone driver can "achieve 100Hz in-room". The actual 'turbine-horn' midrange driver is a compression sort. "The ...

ltsv38, it is an interesting solution for lower midrange horn. If I use something like this for Macondo ‘s fundamental channel (but of cause spherical) then I would flip the horn with driver up and run the neck longer to accommodate a slower, expone...

Hi thereFor some time its bugging me that compression drivers got a very heavy but odd load of air coupling on the membrane. I saw a scatch here to put ideally 2 Horns on each side of the driveway to balance it. That's obviously not so economically :...

Yes, the tamed beast is an oxi-moron. I thought of my 808s as ragged, rough (grainy) and spitty, while the S2 was also ragged/uneven, but the roughness was more like the sound of a metal zipper. Anyway, I never heard either of these stock drivers m...

Herman, horn dimensions does not described by size of driver but only size of throat. It will be absolutely nothing changed in the horn dimensions if you go from between 10" and 12" driver. Sure you would need a bit larger back side of the horn to ac...
