Looks like I have to move it across the room

On the sansui, I tried using ferrite on all the rear inputs.  No change in noise level.

On the ad122, I wrapped a single large donut around the interconnects, which are supposedly shielded, but no change in noise level.  I tried putting ferrite on the digital as well but no change.  I even removed the digital cable off the ad122 and no luck. i tried disconnecting the interconnects from sansui.  Nothing. The only way noise level is reduced is by disconnecting the interconnects from the analog input of the ad122. So basically as long as an analog interconnect is connected to the ad122 it creates noise...

I think you have a HF loop…

Jp,

I think what you do is wrong. The ferrites that you use on the picture are worthless as they will not be having much coupling between the cable and ferrite cores. You need to block entry to Sansui for HF noise. The noise might enter via power cables, antenna, air and interconnects. You need to isolate and debug each case. The most important is that you need to found out if it is the problem with loop (most likely it is) or with just AD122. If you claim that as long as an analog interconnect is connected to the AD122 it creates noise then will the noise be there is you unplug the digital cable to DA924. I bet that will go away that means that it was a loop. If you do not resolve it with a PROPER protecting ALL Sansui cable from HF noise then you can always unplug the DA924 what you do recordings.

Please elaborate!

Still the key is to treat the cables, all cables that go into tuner and into the processors. Do not forget that you have a perfect loop: tuner goes to preamp, as in the same time tuner goes to A/D-DAW-D/A- preamp.  So, you have two grounds come to the same point and this is recipe for a loop disaster. You need to be watch how you connect it and always do not spare ferrite on PS cables (common and differential mode), digital interconnects (common mode), antenna cable (common mode), tuner analog output (common and differential mode). You will be able to decrease the digital noise inflicted to tuner VERY dramatically.

I connect tuner to m-audio inputs in DAW and m-audio outputs to preamp. Based on your explanation above how do you suggest I reconnect to avoid this loop problem?

Thanks,

Remote loop debugging never works.
fiogf49gjkf0d
You do not have other ways to connect then how you have connected as in your case of M-Audio card you have AD and DA abort to you DAW. I would load with ferrite in common and deferential mode the cables that go to tuner and play with the way how you ground DAW I relation to tuner and preamp. You need to see if breaking the path from tuner to preamp would do a difference.

Lavry DA924 strip show.
fiogf49gjkf0d

Spoke with Dima last night. He is working on a broken Lavry DA924 units, I guess Lavry own support is so good that people need to find alternative ways to fix them. With all criticism that Dima usually imposes to the design of digital devised he was absolutely thrilled and very impressed how Lavry made his DA924 multibit. We had a prolong conversation – did have leans in details how DA924 operates and my primary interests were the following:

1)      Option to use DA924 as master clock

2)      Option to use DA924 as salve clock

3)      Option to put clock doubler in DA924 and enable it to work at 4X

4)      Since it is a pure multibit  then an option to  bypass  the DA924’s 7th order filter at 2X

Lavry DA924 is running naturally at 2X speed and does not DSP for 2X sources. Upon farther assessments of all options to do DA924 we concluded that it is not truly worthy to make any changed to DA924 and whatever it is done in DA924 is done so nice that it very much worth to keep as is. I do not have any snick complains with DA924. I would like it to run 4X but Dima brought a lot of arguments that would not make the 4X sampling defiantly preferable. Ironically, listening Dima’s arguments I noted that his position is very much sound like the position of Dan Lavry, at least his arguments against the 4X were very similar. So, my DA924 will stay as it is and will remain my primary 2X DAC with any further modifications.

A new Lavry Gold?
fiogf49gjkf0d
It is reported that Lavry Gold DA924 is no longer available and Dan Lavry reportedly is working on new generation of Gold DAC.

In so, there are 4 very interesting question:

1)    Will Lavry make his new DAC to run at 4X? This is VERY tricky. For years Dan Lavry refused to go for 4X and have published a lot of articles assuring that 4X is a wrong direction. Still I would not believe that the new DAC will be just 2X?
2)    Will the new DAC to sound as good as the old was. This is not as simple and un-reasonable question.
3)    Will Dan Lavry employ in his new DAC as killing architecture as he used in his DA924?
4)    Will a new DA924 will be able to be slaved?
