I do not know who my “favorite underground audio guy” would be but I would NOT like to use wire wound variable resistors. It will have .3mA in each resistor and with this power the Metal Foil with 3 contacts running in parallel (as Vishay does it) is I think a way to go. In fact it is the direction in which I inclined to go.
