Well, it sounds like you have reached a few conclusions that, if you hold fast, will condition further development.
My first thought was an autoformer; but I get that you would prefer the amorphous hard wired to the speakers, and I agree that this would seem to be ideal. Amorphous autoformer? But that's rather like Dima's idea...
Is feedback out of the question for LF only?
What is the least that can be done at at speaker level to present a better load?
