Among all my mocking and humiliating the people who do audio professionally (well very few of them do it professionally, mostly they do it “for leaving”) I have to admit that there is one subject that made me to envy to some of the guys who do audio manufacturing. The nature of that envy is that they can allow themselves to make some interesting experiments and let someone to pay for those experiments. I find it is wonderful and I would love to have this opportunity.

Well, all have own interests and ideas that we would like to try. Some manufacturing guys (not all of them, VERY MUCH NOT all of them) have their native and original interest in sound reproduction as well. However, for a person who in the business of making audio it is much simper to try new personal ideas, new concepts without even the intentions to convert the experiments to serial production models.

Sure, we non-professionals could do it as well but it is a lot of time, and a lot of efforts and… not the last a lot of money. I would be very gratifying if in the end what the project might be a change to reimburse the efforts. The manufacturers do have this opportunity. We, the enthusiasts do not.

For instance I have a few ideas how to make a very interesting loudspeakers system, that would be relatively inexpensive, full-range, relatively small but at the same time that would a very high result… with little regards for room. Pretend a result of the Wilson Alexandria (actuary much better) for under $15.000… Still, to try it I would need to spend quite a time and) would say $7K-$10K. Sure, I am very interested to try it but I would never do it. I would never do it because I personally do not need it for my own playback and to invest so much effort “juts for fan” does not make sense to me. However, should I be a manufacture then it “might” be a different story. Manufacturers are equipped to make such experiments. Also during those experiments they might discover some findings that they might utilize in this commercial products (effectively cashing out the time and money the have spent in the experiments).  It would not be mentioning that the results of the experiments might leads to a viable commercial product…

Yes. I envy them for that. Sure they have own problems and restriction but still…if a person has a passion and native interest his day-time occupation allows him to exercise his interest then I find if it enviable…
