I know from experience that publishing a magazine requires income other than subscription money, so this guy either lives in his car, has another job, or he got lucky in some other line of endeavor that underwrites this obsession. Still, that the cost of subscription is so high makes it a real roll of the dice for the putative subscriber, so I am still waiting to hear from people who can think that this is (somehow) as good a deal as he says it is. So far, I am 1/2 content that Stereophile is dirt cheap, its cost reflecting exactly its worth to me, since I haven't for many years now understood what any of the current crop of writers mean when they describe something, ie, there is for me no sonic reference apart from the usual silliness when I drift by the room-in-question at a "salon" hawking the wares-of-the-month.
And yet, I always hope to run into someone who knows something worth while about hi-fi that I don't know, and I suppose that if anything could get me to part with over $200 for mere words, that would be it.
Just so you'll all know, if I ever actually send the guy my subscription money, the rag will fold overnight. At least, that's how it's gone for the last 40 years.
Can't someone else just check it out and report back???
