Being an active musician, I can say that many times composers did not actually compose for any specific ensemble. They may have been lucky and had someone interested in their work. Even the great Johann Sebastian Bach had his bread and butter cantatas written for his church job and the performers there but the Orchestra suites or Brandenburg Concertos were "in his head".Rerurn to Romy the Cat's Site
