No quibble here! I've been saying this myself for twenty-five years. Nor are shows a solution... quite the contrary!

Well, the shows rarely, if ever, peruse sonic objectives. They mostly are just paying the routine barberry to the industry community. It is similar that if you a Jewish doctor who do not subscribe to Judaic religion but having a practice within a Jews dominating neighborhood. Would this doctor do not perform that bogus Bar Mitzvah to his son if he knows that he well be risking his business’ recognition among his prospective patients? The very same happens with the trade audio shows. Each single manufacture bitches about audio shows as waste of time and money (even if the show leaded to some sales). However, they do need to attend the show as if the do not then the industry begin to spread rumors about the manufacturer status. The audio shows is the only place where the audio industry thugs have (as they believe) some value and esteem as the manufactures at the show band themselves over in order the industry pimps acknowledge the manufactures existence. BTW, one of the reasons who I abandoned the audio show scenes because I forced to see in there all that reviewing-editorial junk that walks from room to room with an self-importance of a camel, with the brain of a donkey and with ears of a salmon….

Anyhow, returning to the subject of “average audio person has no opportunity to learn what is available out there”. In the horn world, the consumer ignorance is partiality painful as horns are not exactly marketable product (size). If we look at the general consumer unawareness then in horn universe the end users are in deep dark. A few years ago I suggested to a friend of mine who foolishly was looking an audio venture to build I the mid East Cost a permanent demo room with a properly implemented 5-ways horn installation. The purpose was not to selling the equipment (in fact I had some ideas how to make the equipment completely “terra incognito” in there) but to rent the room to people and change money per experience. (I know about the similar installations in actions but no in US). I’m very much convinced than if a person who has a real interest in audio pays $3500 for a single listening session and get feeling “how it  might be” then it would be very beneficial for his/her audio horizons.
