I recently bought the new DVD of the picture Ben-Hur and have much time watching the movie and listening to the music, indeed, I often play movies for the purpose of listening to the music.

Anyway it got me thinking once again how and why I got into this hobby---to get the sound I heard in the 70mm roadshow houses when I was young.

My first experience with hi-fi and one I remember like it was yesterday was in 1959 when I was 10 years old. My father and I went to downtown Detroit to see the roadshow Ben-Hur. When the lights dimmed and the overture music began the opening fanfare gave me chills, I'd never heard music reproduced with such power and clarity. That was my defining moment with hi-fi, that's what I want to recreate.

I don't know how symphonies, chamber music and things like that should sound and I don't think about it. But movie music, that I know and I care a great deal about how that sounds.

I reckon that's why I like Altecs.
