I'd agree with that. I wouldn't mind seeing the British PM being seen to support the manufacturers here (such as Avid & Naim!) in such a public way. However, such conspicuous consumption wouldn't be well received here in these straightened times and also I suspect that if he has any music interest at all, an iPod will be adequate as it is for millions of others.

Forgive my ignorance.  Are there currently manufacturers of 'high end' turntables, cd players, amplifiers & speakers in Russia?
I'm sure there are but what brands are they?

Markus. Hasn't that always been ML's target market?

Guy, I do not know what Mark Levinson target market is. I heard that after a few years of hiding in South America from US creditors he re-immerge somewhere in Europe and planning to start a new audio company. I am sure in realist it will be another venture what he grab investor’s money, loose it and run away but I anyhow wish him good luck.

My comment about the Russian president has nothing to do with Russian patriotism. I am far from it, hey the Dr. Strangelove is one of my favorite movies – how bad shell it be? Still, I feel that those Russian pictures were inappropriate, inappropriate for any president not only for Russian president.  I have no idea if any currently manufacturers of 'high end' turntables, cd players, amplifiers & speakers in Russia”. I am sure that they do exists and I am sure that if their brands would show up on those pictures then everyone would know them. This is the whole point. You need to understand that the way how those pictures are taken is not a live journalism. They had a staff of stylist, male up artists, public relation specialists who plan and orchestrated each minute detail on the image that will go public. 10-12 year back I shot a wedding for a guy who was a member of Hilary Clinton’s secret service, at the time when Bill Clinton was a President.  I did ask him a lot about photographic procedures about the president and first family. He assured me that there is no single official accidental image and everything is going over a chain of modeling, authorization and strategic message sending. I am sure Russian have the very same and this is why I feel that to make images of Russian President publicizing foreign equipment was stupid thing to do.

It would not be the same if US President say publicly that he like to ride Mongolian Horse or like to read Sound Americas literature. This is fine to me. However, I will have problem if the same US President would publicly accent the fact the he bought to his daughter a non-American car and then explicitly use the car as a photographic prop…
