Add a pair of good transformers in front of it, like in this photo, it's confusing how this can sound so good....

Well, there is place for everything in time and life. This little discovery made me want to share that sometimes there is a time and a place for a small (20 w/ch) small, simple SS amp. This one made me pause a re-evaluate what is possible when you ha...

I think I wrote In the past here, if you like the 10” Tannoy, why not try the 12” or 15”? The ones with rubber surround are not so good in my view (from CPA or DMT series as they have very restricted midrange) but the cloth surround Tannoys are wort...

I did not see if this have been covered by Romy so I have to ask.Have you tried a larger Tannoy driver, like a 12" or 15" of the same era like your 10"? Maybe the bigger tannoy will play better for you?...
|
I have no doubts that the disassembly of Macondo was NOT due to simplification of life or getting old or becoming tired reasons. It is very possible that something better came along. I know this because I am in the exact same situation. I took ap...

I have not done this myself but have been thinking about this for a few months. Maybe it would be useful to see the distortion profile of the Dannoy speaker. It's a long shot but maybe this intangible "content" Romy is talking about has something to ...

Hi guys and Romy,I was inspired by Romy's recent videos on Dunlavy speakers, sound, and it got me thinking, about simple correctness of sound, when I seldom experience it. It happens at surprising moments sometimes, when you least expect it. This rea...

I would try reducing the level of lowest channel or only play left or right side (if stereo ULF). Then run your experiment again.

Yes, this a very interesting topic - the all-encompassing underlying purpose.
I also like Rowuk's response "rather about looking in the mirror..."
I want to add that usually when we look in the mirror we see ourself, and only the physical ...

Romy, thank you for this link, I am enjoying these concerts. Do you know if these recordings are available to purchase?...

Not that physics is my strong suit, but casually watching a physics youtube video this thought crossed my mind.
I wonder if gyroscopes can be used in a turntable to improve it's performance without reverting to ultra high mass system...

You can get all the advice from the experts but you might as well start with something. But at least with pro sound like VOID, Funktion One, or Meyer Sound, you can rent the system, listen to it for a while and begin to dissect what it is you like abo...
|
Tequilahut,You mention Air Motion system. As an example. How do you know you like the sound -- did you listen to them? Or is the aesthetics of horns that you like and that is forming your selection of examples? It's good to know that from the start....
|
But why is this guy an asshole? He seems ok in the couple of youtube videos I watched, although I did not study him in depth... On the other hand, the speakers were not my cup of tea when I heard them once for 20 minutes....

"As of now, the book will only be available from amazon.co.uk, but amazon users on other continents will be able to order the book from the UK site"
I'm looking forward to building my horn base with this read!...

This is an interesting topic and a sensitive matter. For me it goes in a different direction than most audiophile discussions of sound quality and how it related to the audio hobby. The ridiculousness of the high end audio hobby becomes evident w...

Romy, your response sheds some light and I find your statement very interesting. >> I feel that if the listening distance is far from any nearfield and the room is relatedly big then Multicells can do OKwhat do you consider "nearfield" and what...

Not at all looking for suggestions on what to do but to share findings about the optimal use of the multicell midrange horns. For example, I see that Romy has played around with this horn and I am sure listened to it by itself. So what were the findi...

[quote user="rowuk"]Look up Romys CETLA91 or a new multicell for Macondo. There is a guy not far away from me Markus Klug, who builds these. I heard then at his house but there were "non speaker issues" that did not tell me what in the sound could be ...

I have been intrigued by the Altec or similar Multicellular horns for a while. At least, in the midrange application of 500hz - 5K they look very interesting. I doubt of their high frequency capabilities but for midrange duty with a suitable 2" drive...
|
[quote user="rowuk"]I see a problem with any „coaxial“ attempt in one horn. The length of the horn is correct for one band, but not both HF and MF. If the horn is optimized for MF, if is too long for HF and works like a transmission line at those fre...

In this case something like 5khz to 15khz -- only for the tweeter and only for DELAY. However, if the cellular midrange horns have smooth coverage above 5khz, all the better. But I have no experience with them - maybe they sound good to 8khz....Of co...

Number one, that I'd like to run by you guys due to it's simpler nature and closer to reality execution is the idea I have been thinking about. No first hand experience with any of this.Say we use something like altec 1505b multicellular horn that sh...

Tamara Venglovskaya on piano. Maybe his wife? That would make this an extra special record, in my book!
the price of the record was 1 ruble, 45 cents, if that makes a difference....

Viktor Venglovskiy - Trombone
A side:
Sergei Rachmaninoff - Elegie op.3 No.1
V. Angelov - Skertsino (aka Scherzino)
Balys Dvarionas - Theme with variations

Romy,I actually had one of those horns, as I wrote in the first post. Edgar 80hz straight horn. I sold it long ago because I did not like the sound, no matter what amps I tried it with. The problem was, to me it sounded muddy, no matter what I tried,...

When commenting on Musique-Concrete System, Romy wrote:
"In a horn the most important category is the ratio between the mouth and throat"
"the bass horn are dangers and it is better do not do it if they are not ...

I used to have Edgar 80hz straight horns and this was my only experience with short midbass horns. I did not like them in my system and sold them. Lately, I have been wondering about these designs in general and is there such a thing as a good soundi...

Rowuk,Thanks for the link, I have zero music theory and this will be most useful for me to study. On a side note, are you the guy who has RH-307 amplifier? If so, may I ask you (maybe off site) for your experience with this amp that I plan to build?t...

Rowuk, can you provide an updated, working link?...
