Forgive my complete ignorance in the speaker design, but if Edgar is right and the passive radiator has to be the last one, why not adding a sub with a passive? A sub with the same 8565 as a passive?
I hear you re the injection,...

@Edgar - No, I do not use reverb injections. What do you mean by "blending up and down"? What xovers do you use? I have the UK made ones as they worked best for me (the settings are described up in the thread).
@Paul - Not to pra...
It seems from following these threads that no one so far has been content to stay focused on recreating the accidental success of the original Dunnoy/Dannoy. Is this because no one can actually recreate the original, or is it bec...
For one thing, I've already spent several decades charting vintage and newer "special" drivers and sound.
I wish I had all that time to experiment.

IMHO, wrong approach Paul. Theoreticizing and trying to use your intellect will not work here, just build them. I think you have already spent more time trying to understand what is happening than it would take to hunt a pair of Red's no pun intended...

Haha, great analogy Edgar! Actually while writing to you the previous mess, I was listening Dannoys the 1st time after laying down the parquet and that was sooo damn good! No idea if the parquet helped or what but it was mesmerizing (FM program w...

Edgar, thank you for sharing your findings. The timing couldn't have been better as I have just re-assembled my Dannoys after months of idling (I liked the sound of Dannoys so much that I decided to put a hard wood parquet to add some sparkle to ...

Thanks Mats! Stacking is one option but I'm counting on +3dB of the ceiling reinforcement. The plan is to cross somewhere around 60Hz ...

After fantasizing about an infinite baffle, I calculated what kind of structure I'd have to build (in lieu of an attic/crawlspace) and this is an obvious no-go. A more practical idea is a sealed box with two parallel ScanSpeaks per channel. This ...

After a provisional cleaning of my crappy Yamaha C2 preamp, I got +/- balanced bass and then made a bit of discovery: Changed the parallel R in the HF circuit of the UK crossover from 50R to 25R (and switched the xcover to the treble boost mode which...

It is not the amp but the Yamaha preamp that gives the problem. A good kick in my butt to finish the 801 pre a la Anthony. Apologies for spamming. ...

Hi Anthony,
Thank you for your reply & explanations.
I actually need only a buffer, perhaps 2x as my Yamaha B2 is very sensitive, but I need a good one. I have right now Yamaha C2 just to have anything and I ...

Hi Anthony, sorry for off topic but have been trying to contact you re your 801A preamp in your 801A thread.
Would appreciate sharing some details as I'm planing to construct sth similar.
Thanks

Given the delicate nature of the process + difficulties in finding reds, I think I will skip the process for now and concentrate on improving B2....

Hi Paul, these are my surrounds.
Jarek, you've probably already thought of this, but not to leave it unsaid: If there is any chance for cone displacement when you mess with the surround (and/or the spyder), I recommend you first work out some shims to put in...

Had problems 2 and 3 here with my British crossovers
Both speakers have the 78 hz. Dip after a 50 hz. Peak. they are probably room resonances. Try moving the speakers and/ or the mike and remeasure. Also you have the sa...

Hi Bill,
Re 1. the UK gentleman says the 78Hz dip can be due to the age-stiffened surround of the bass driver (I looked at Romy's measurements of original Dannoys and they have it too). My surrounds are covered with the original ...

I changed the crossovers to the UK ones and made some measurements on my Dannoys. The crossovers are set to the Standard treble mode (I guess that is position 2 on the original Tannoy grey box crossover) and no 3kHz notch filter. Green curve - Le...

Hi Bill, I'd take them but I'm in EU. Send me a private mess pls, might be the shipping costs will not kill the deal.
B2- thanks! I'd love to bypass that commutation crap. The volume controls are the worst in my B2, really cuttin...

Made first sounds with my Dannoy incarnation. Hard to comment on it now as my setup turns out to have some problems:
1. I haven't bypassed the B2's input circuits yet. And they do kill the sound - one slight move of one of the p...

Hi Anthony,
Nice piece, congrats! I'm in need of a good preamp and was thinking of making the same as I have 801A's. If I may,
1. Has the 801A pre stayed in your system? How do you feel about it after the time? ...

Thanks Bill! I'll prefer to use something more elegant than the putty (which will harden with time).
I go with the passive radiator not double Reds. My space is pretty small so I hope a single Red will do.

Finally after endless waiting the boxes are here. The pics don't do the justice, the cabinet makers did an excellent job!

Thanks Bill for your input, helpful as always! Quite a journey, congrats.
My space at this moment is tiny compared to yours: Irregular shape, some 3.4m from the speakers' location to the opposite wall (depth), about 1.7m separati...
