Nice one Jarek! Glad that you have it going. I've now switched my autoformer to the input as one of my new sources puts out over 10Vrms and I did not want to increase the bias. No real change in sound as far as I can tell. Enjoy....

Romy, I'll be digging round in my amps tomorrow and intend to install a filter for the red tweeter while there. What should I be aiming for? 7kHz first order from memory, but hoping you can confirm. Such a filter could be achieved just by changing...
|
Righto then, I guess there is no reason not to try this, except that one of the original crossovers here is non-functioning (if I remember correctly), so if trialling in stereo I'll have to crossover in Melquiades. Should have the parts here to do t...

Yes, my DSET is fundamentally the same as yours with 6 channels, three fullrange, 1627a for Channel C. The largest difference is probably that my DHT channel has its own B+.My preamp is quite different though, being a hybrid based on 10y. It has a ...

Looks like the Red 10's are circa 92dB/w/m as an entire "speaker" including woofer. I've never played with them before, but I wonder how much, if any, SPL is scrubbed from the tweeter by the crossover so that it matches the woofer. Romy, from what ...

Just turned on the TV to put on some YouTube while preparing to belatedly give Macondo a cleanup and right there was your new video...lost 45mins of cleaning time though, and those Bass Cannons take a lot of cleaning!Turns out the Red 10" pair I purc...

That attic is a lot of space to perhaps return to a midbass horn, should you be so inclined. Is the IB ULF run from DSET or a separate amplifier?...
|
I've managed to make my own room treatments thus far, all bass oriented and although some broadband absorption has been used the bulk is effective 30hz - 500hz. It is an architectural type of solution where I have a covered the front and side walls...
|
Romy, are you presently running a single or dual Vitavox 15" per side? I assume this is.run from a DSET channel? My room has a huge cancellation 60hz-100hz, broad and deep, and when I tried the Vitavox 15" drivers I could get two-fifths of stuf...
|
Romy, sad to hear of your separation. I hope you are ok.
I use one of these to align my horn stacks...
...simple to use, just put it on a camera tripod and wind it up an...

Yes, a cheap inductive l-pad between OPT and S2 in midrange channel. Interestingly, the frequency response of the first order Lazy Ribbon is remarkably similar to a response you posted somewhere on this site of the Water Drop with third order filter...
|
It is a RAAL Lazy Ribbon with the integrated transformer doubling as DSET OPT. Surprisingly, I started with a 4th order high pass filter which has steadily migrated back to first order...and it works.Next step is to trial a biradial horn for a bit m...

The more I get out and listen to other systems the more I appreciate Macondo/DSET mainly for the life-like dynamics offered. I am also sure that many of the people that listen to my version are unable to grasp just how dynamic the sound is compared ...

Romy,My DSET amps are still open (no top plate) so are fully ventilated, but I have left vents in the top plate around all of the valves and installed two computer fans (running very low speed) that push air from the bottom and out the vents on the t...

A small word of advice regarding wiring the 6c33c heaters. My DSET's have now have several thousand hours of use and I love them to death. I've not heard any amplifier able to do what they do. The first amp has over 10,000 hours now and has never fa...

Actually it is not exactly accurate. In the way my Macondo is a magic bullet. If you read carefully old article about Macondo axioms then you will see that one of the major underlying principle...
I am not expert and my experience is limited but What I think is Macondo could outperform other horn systems in right setup.
Soundwise, my Macondo is a very interesting thing although Romy's may well be somewhat different, I...

Macondo is no magic bullet. Sure, Macondo/DSET is put together in a way that it's components need for optimal operation, and when "used as directed" the performance is phenomonal, but it is still prone to room integration and poor setup so will like...

You sound excited about the process and the early results Romy...great to hear....

In my case I found that RAAL ribbon with first order can not deal with dynamics of S2 driver.
I suspect that my RAAL Lazy Ribbon does not have as much lower frequency output as your RAAL Waterdrop. RAAL refused...
|
Romy,Interesting video. The first thing that came to my mind when you were talking about HF colours and the "clean" RAAL Waterdrop tweeter, is perhaps adding colour to the RAAL. Instead of blanding out the midrange S2 and injecting HF colour with t...

Being in the final phases of tuning my Macondo/Melquiades, I am most interested where you may go with 2.0 Romy. I'm so in love with my setup that I feel it will be quite some time before the honeymoon is over......

QRD diffusers on the ceiling
QRD diffusers need distance to work properly that you are unlikely to have at the ceiling. BAD panels or better yet the convex type diffusors are probably better options....

Jarek,If you would like some help with this please get in contact with me and I'll help out any way I can. Probably best to not do it on Romy's forum lest it become a diy audio site...Anthony...

Hi Anthony,
trying to copy a known good solution - too little time for experiments recently.
Well, Romy had great results with the Placette and his Dannoys, so that is the known good solution as far as I am con...

Hi Jarek,Apologies for missing your post.To answer your questions:(1) Yes and no. I've bundled the preamp into its new chassis (that I made from scratch) and it does not sound as good as before. There is a grounding problem with the new installatio...

Romy, I feel as though I've been a fly-on-the-wall during a session between you and your audio shrink. What you said does seem to make sense especially in terms of your previous postings on the subject. Not sure how you are ever going to achieve wh...

Thought I would put your vid up on the tv for the first time...am having some kind of weird moment looking past my Macondo to your Macondo. Probably should have closed the blinds behind me to lessen the morning light reflecting off the televisio...
