I am adding to what Romy just posted for me. See the below for more information about tapped horns.Rgs, JLH*******************************************************************So, what does a tapped horn look like? There are several ways to fold, b...

I built a pair of tapped horns, as per John Hasquin, designed to integrate w/ mid-bass horns (cross over ~ 70-80 hz). Loaded in the corners, the low bass is well supported, and, they "dissapear" sonicaly. By that, I mean, they don't "stick out" at ...

I was just wondering if Romy was deprived of oxygen at birth, or was perhaps "tapped" on the head with a wrecking ball at some point? Anyway to all, ENJOY THE MUSIC!!!...

If I think about the last 10-20 years, the only name that keeps coming up is Tom Danley. Synergy and Unity horns and tapped horn subwoofers got a fair amount of traction in the pro sound and DIY HiFi world. Just about everything else is “old technolo...

Thinking about that new supertweeter or tapped horn subwoofer. This picture could give you an idea if something else in the house may be affected........

Well, I normally use tube rectifier with my LC filters and, I don´t know exactly why, I haven´t had ringing problems at switching. I think could be tubes switch in a gentler way than silicon. I recommend you use an appropriated snubber circuit across...

I have just installed my whole speaker system at a friends house, 5 way horn loaded, it was getting in my way for some tests I wanted to run (Tapped Horns, exponential 180 hz horn) I already like it better! Change is good.Koshka will love to have m...

Hi Romy,You should have to check Tom Danley's speakers at http://www.danleysoundlabs.com/. He has quite a few tapped horn subs and Synergy horns for PA, but there are people using his speakers at home, like myself. I have changed from Avantgarde Acos...

Hello Romy,I didn't use John Hasquin's tapped horn design, I modeled my own in hornresp for my TAD woofer. I knew I would only need it up to ~55Hz so I was happy to have it flat from 23Hz-70Hz. The lowest crossover point for Behringer DCX 2496 is 20H...
Yes, tapped horns are lower efficiency, mine are 105 dB (not 108 - 110 dB like the rest of the system).
Actually the 105dB efficiency is very good efficiency and with this efficiency any 20W-30W DSET amp wou...

Yes, a dedicated filament for each DHT output tube is best. I would suggest getting one with a center-tapped secondary.... gives you some options. Regards, KM...

Another thing to consider here is a specific reason or reasons to use the "PR Type" Scanspeaks as subs, since Romy says outright that the Dannoy's PR cones have "no ouput", but the (rather amemic) LF from the Dannoy'ed Tannoy is all there is from the...

One striking thing is the dichotomisation of horn and non-horn, where really there is a continuity to examine, with interesting subtopologies such as tapped and synergy horns at the boundaries. I know these and other variations have been discussed he...

Hello Macman,Nice horns, I like that you finished everything properly! I am getting tired of seeing piles of horns.I think the ringing you are getting from your midbass horn is that the throat reactance is not balanced. How did you calculate the ba...

I have drawn up my 20Hz subwoofer horn in Google SketchUp 3D. This horn is more for home theater than for music. My smaller 40Hz loaded with B&C Speakers 8PE21’s is more musical and articulate. The 20Hz tapped horn is loaded with two Tang Ban...
I've only heard the 801 in class A2, but I can easily imagine that the 10Y or 801 with nickel output would offer the purest possible sound in the 1k-10k range, such that it is the S2's true voice you are hearing. It's something ...

Yes, Markus, thanks. It is a bit too obvious that Speedysteve7 is not a typical DIYAudio moron. As the evidence: pay attention the Speedysteve7 posted information about his playback and has no following. In contrary of him installation would be 2...

MoreartDouble-driver "back horns"? I am not sure what you are asking about, or what exactly you are promoting, but I do not agree with lightweight, square-section horns, because I have never heard one that worked, apart from shifting certain frequen...

Josh, I think that you touched more complicated subject then you think. Let me to explain why I feel this way. The fact that I advocate a dogmatic, religiously-stubborn, almost paranoid time alignment of the channels is not a secret. I do feel very c...
Then i have problems with my tapped horn. He works 25-90hz range. What you recommending for bass or midbass?I do not have too much room for bigger horn system.
I do not have too much experience with tapped horns but I do not...
Are you planning to drive the SS lower than the frequency gained by the box? I don't remember the older drivers having long Xmax and/or high BL, or high mms, so multiple drivers and likely more power, not to mention biased X/O, ...

Running in drivers...and the sound is getting better and better...just lovely. This weekend, I'll relocate my mid bass horns to fire directly out to the room. The angled baffles work very well for integration of sound with the mid horns...but I'll get...

Eric of Volvotreter seems very happy with the performance of the tapped horns in his horn loaded system. You can find out more here:http://www.volvotreter.de/th.htmRegardsRakesh...

I am still here still trying to work it out. Read your mid bass horns article again. Learned a bit more. You right about open baffle I once foolishly sold everything I owned to buy a pair of km30. They never sounded good until one day...

Alex, whatever the standards and/or expectations are for steel plate for ship yards, customers for electrical connectors don't want them to start out corroded, starting at the wholesale/distributor level. So, manufacturers don't want an inventory of ...

I woke up this morning to have the brightest thought that my DHT issues are probably caused by how I have wired up the filament transformers. When I ordered all the transformers for this project I gave Lucas of Black Art Automation the design brief ...

Romy, as you know by now, most small generators are toys, really not suitable for our purposes. I have no idea where or how you found the perfect old small generator, but starting with what you have, if you can get all the wiring right, you just mig...

Hi,I thought on tetrodo (KT-88, KT-120, KT150) and write pentodo, sorry. Wherever the tetrodo sound were nothing special I personally find them a lot of better than solid state, that why I was asking, and these days one can have 300W with to KT150 P...

I use hypex amp on my tapped horn (so ULF) and it is great. I use a plate version specifically built for sub duties. It has a 18db filter as well as a rotary phase knob which comes in handy! I have had no problems, and can not say its doing anything ...
